Mother Paul Offiah Memorial Girls' Secondary School, Azia formerly known as "MERCY GIRLS' SECONDARY SCHOOL" was founded on 8th September, 2003. The foundation of this school was possible through the inspiration and help of Late Rev. Mother Mary Paul Offiahh (DMMM), the then Superior General of the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Mercy Congregation, together with the unrelented effort of Rev. Srs. Innocentina Marie Obi, Angeli-Frances Okoye and Chibuokem Ezeonu. These sisters gathered the children for entrance examination and convinced them to come along with them. The school is under the management of the Daughters of Mary Mother of Mercy Sisters (DMMM). Thirteen students were present on the resumption day (8th September, 2003). They were zealous to learn, a handful of qualified teachers, graduates, N.C.E holders were present also and were ready and eager to give the students the best according to their areas of discipline

The school started with JSS 1 students only.
Our mission is to offer qualitative education in wide range of subject at junior and senior levels of education in order to achieve the following:-
1. To foster the harmonious development of the physical, moral, social, intellectual and spiritual endowment of young girls.
2. To provide a catholic education noted for it's quality to young girls irrespective of their background and denominations.
3. To help curb the moral decadence prevalent in our society and school by giving moral balance to young girls.

In the whole of Ihiala Local Government, our school is known for academic excellence both in external examinations, debates, quiz, match past, cultural display/dance. In all these competitions, 1st position is usually reserved for our school because our school is incomparable both within and outside the local government. The school also has qualified teachers in all field of studies who are dedicated to their work.

Moral: The school has a very high moral standard, the students are morally balanced. The school still maintained her motto "Wisdom & Academic Excellence" The School Philosophy: The school is a catholic school owned and managed by the Daughters of Mary, Mother of Mercy Sisters. It is girls boarding secondary school concieved as a centre for training nigerian girls for moral and academic excellence, achieved through hard labour, self control, fear of God and determination. Foundress Mission Statement: The foundress Late Rev. Mother Mary Paul Offiah believed that to train a woman is to train a nation.
To her, a nation is trained by training young girls, she posits "To bring moral sanity to our society to our social and political life, young girls must be morally and academically sound". Girls must be imbued with integrity, charity and determination. Daily Haurarium Of The School: Students rise daily at 4:30am, say their morning prayers/rosary at 5:00am, attend morning prep by 5:30am - 6:00 am, then the Holy Mass. They do their morning duties. Studies starts from 8:00am - 4:00pm daily. At 1:30pm, they take their lunch and return for moral classes. They observe an hour of divine mercy by 3:00pm daily. Afternoon prep starts by 5:00pm until 6:00pm. Evening prayers starts by 6:00pm. Students go for night prep at 7:30pm until 10:00pm when they retire after night prayers said in common.
Moral instructions forms part of the school time table and it is conducted by Rev. Sr. and some competent teachers.
This great woman, Rev. Mother Paul Offiah Azia has the following aims and objectives in establishing this noble institution: For evangelization and development. For sisters to continue the good work and giving the children sound education. They have already started from Mercy Nursery & Primary School which is off-short of the school. To give the children in remote villages like Azia and neighbouring towns the opportunity to get a good standard of education like their counterparts in urban areas. To help to develop the children from all and sundry holistically i.e morally, academically, mentally and physically.
The school was recognised by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on the 24th day of October, 2005, and also the foundation stone of the school was laid on 30th June, 2007. On that same day, the school was officially changed from MERCY GIRLS' SECONDARY SCHOOL to MOTHER PAUL OffiahH MEMORIAL GIRLS' SECONDARY, in appreciation and in memory of the Late great woman Rev. Mother Paul Offiahh for her contribution towards educating the poor in the society. These efforts were possible through the tireless hard work of Rev. Sr. M. Bertin Okezie. Then in June, 2008, the school sat for J.S.C.E in the school for the first time.
The school has gotten it's approval for both junior and senior WAEC and NECO. To God be the glory, all the examinations are now taken in our school. The school sat for the first WAEC and NECO examinations in 2011/2012 academic session and performed wonderfully well.
